Andrew Clark
Stephen and I joined A&O on the same day and although our paths went in different directions in the firm whenever we were in the same place at the same time we would try to meet over lunch, dinner or something. Behind Stephen's serious commitment to whatever his current role then was (and Stephen could bring his considerable international talents to any role the firm wanted him to perform) Stephen's dry sense of humour was never far away. Always consistent, always calm, always patient and someone who would quietly and effectively argue for his point of view (invariably the right one). What particularly distinguished Stephen was his unwavering commitment to the rule of law and access to justice and he will be greatly missed by many in the numerous jurisdictions where he had an impact. Although I had seen Stephen less of late, I will always remember Stephen as a kind and thoughtful colleague, a man of steadfast principle and integrity. My deepest sympathies and prayers to all his family and friends for this very sad loss.
